Going under the knife

Sounds horrible doesn't it? Why do people say that? Where did that originate from?

Anyway, I will be going under the knife next week to have my tonsils removed. I will not miss them one bit.

Many people have had their tonsils out as a child, and there seems to be an urban legend of sorts concerning the extreme pain that is supposedly associated with having them out as an adult. Though I don't like my surgeon telling me that I am high risk for hemorrhaging and having to come back in for emergency surgery, I expect it to be relatively easy to recover from.

For one, my mother is coming in town to tend to me with tender loving care. Which I'm really looking forward to. I have saved many obscure movies on tivo in anticipation of sitting on the couch with mom while we eat orange sherbet.

For those of you that are curious as to what a tonsillectomy actually is, here is a nifty explanation on wikipedia.com: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tonsillectomy

I generally freaked myself out when I got to the different surgical methods, so read as you dare. Of course, it might be very interesting since it's not your precious tonsils getting taken out, is it?

Just make sure to eat ice cream to sooth your throat.
